A QR code is a barcode often associated with a product or a website. A consumer snaps a picture of a QR code with their smartphone. Not the most aesthetically pleasing marketing tool, QR codes cannot be manipulated very much to look “pretty” and take up their fair share of the packaging design real estate. On the bright side, QR is easy to implement, and is a cost-effective way for the quick transfer of information.
A convenient and versatile wireless technology, NFC makes it very easy for users to interact at the mere touch or tap of their screen. NFC’s advantage goes beyond [a layer of] packaging – each product is equipped with a unique serial code and is “readable” even after the primary packaging is discarded. This enables continuous communication with the customer (e.g. a jar of facial cream in your bedroom stays ‘connectable’).
Augmented Reality (AR) connectivity does not require any alteration to product packaging.
